Corporate Games in Southern California: 8 Formats, Costs, and How to Choose
By Jay Filichia, TeamBuilding ROI — Last updated July 2026
Corporate games are structured team competitions run by a professional host, built on a scoring system that keeps every participant active for the full session. TeamBuilding ROI runs eight corporate game formats across Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego for groups from 10 to 2,000 people. We bring the equipment, the host, and the scoring to your office, hotel ballroom, resort lawn, or beach, and run the event start to finish. Pricing runs $50 to $300 per person depending on format and duration.
The case for doing this well has gotten stronger. Gallup’s 2026 State of the Global Workplace report found global employee engagement fell to 20 percent in 2025, the lowest level since 2020 and the first back-to-back annual decline Gallup has recorded. Sixty-four percent of employees are not engaged and another 16 percent are actively disengaged. Gallup puts the cost at roughly $10 trillion in lost productivity, about 9 percent of global GDP.
A game day does not fix that on its own. But a well-run competition with a real debrief is one of the few interventions that gets a disengaged team talking to each other again, and it costs a fraction of what the disengagement does. If you are still deciding on region and venue, our page on corporate events across Southern California covers venues, logistics, and pricing for all three metros in one place.
What Counts as a Corporate Game?
A corporate game is a facilitated team competition with a scoring system and a defined ending, distinguishing it from icebreakers, which have no winner, and from party activities, which have no structure. Three elements have to be present:
- A scoring system. Teams compete with a visible, running result.
- A facilitator. A host runs the room, keeps pace, and manages the people who did not want to be there.
- A defined end. A winner, a reveal, or a finished object. Open-ended activities lose energy; competitions do not.
Every format below meets all three. Each is matched to a team situation, a group size, and a duration so you can choose by fit rather than by name.
The Eight Formats at a Glance
Format | Best For | Duration | Group Size |
Global Games (Office Olympics) | Large kickoffs, cross-functional mixers | 90–120 min | 10–2,000+ |

60 Seconds to Success | Limited space, limited time, hybrid teams | 45–90 min | 10–200 |
Murder Mystery | Problem-solving, cross-department mixing | 2–3 hours | 20–500 |
Greatest Glider | Engineering and product teams | 90 min–2 hours | 10–200 |
Treasure Hunt | Getting teams outside, city venues | 2–3 hours | 20–500 |

Charity Bike Build | CSR goals, purpose-driven teams | 2–3 hours | 20–500 |
The Eight Formats in Detail
Global Games (Office Olympics)
Global Games is a rotating circuit of short physical, mental, and creative challenges scored across teams, run at simultaneous stations. Because stations run at the same time rather than in sequence, this is the format that scales furthest: modular setups handle groups past a thousand with nobody standing in line. Best for company kickoffs and cross-functional mixers where the point is getting people who never work together onto the same team.
Station breakdown and full structure are on the Southern California Global Games page.
Game Show Roundup
Game Show Roundup is a hosted TV-style competition with buzzer rounds modeled on Family Feud, Jeopardy, and The Price Is Right, customized around your company. It needs nothing but a room and power, which makes it the most venue-flexible format on this list. Buzzer rounds keep the audience engaged even when they are not on stage, so it holds a room of 400 as well as a room of 40. Usual pick for all-hands meetings and holiday parties.
60 Seconds to Success
60 Seconds to Success is a rapid-fire challenge format where teams race a one-minute clock through short skill-based tasks, modeled on Minute to Win It. Each round lasts a minute, so the whole program fits a conference room, a cafeteria, or a hotel breakout space. This is what we recommend when you have 45 minutes inside a longer agenda rather than a dedicated event window.
Murder Mystery
Murder Mystery is an interactive investigation where teams gather clues, interrogate suspects, and identify the culprit before time expires. This is not dinner theater. Participants move through your venue collecting physical evidence, which makes it a strong fit for hotels and campuses with multiple spaces, and for teams whose actual problem is cross-department communication.
Greatest Glider
Greatest Glider is an aerodynamics build challenge where teams design, construct, and launch gliders, then compete on distance, accuracy, and trick shots. The build phase rewards planning and the launch phase rewards nerve, which tends to produce a different winner than anyone expects. Popular with engineering and product teams who want something hands-on without a half-day commitment.
Treasure Hunt
A corporate treasure hunt is a facilitated outdoor competition where teams navigate real neighborhoods solving location-based clues on their phones, with live scoring throughout. We build the route around your venue: the DTLA Arts District, the Santa Monica Pier, Balboa Island, Huntington Beach’s Main Street, or San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
Route options and clue formats are covered on the Southern California scavenger hunts page.
Robot Rally
Robot Rally is a build-and-battle competition where teams design, construct, and program robots, then race them through an obstacle course. It is the most technical format we run and the one that lands hardest with aerospace, biotech, and engineering groups across El Segundo, Irvine, and Carlsbad. Runs fully indoors and is ballroom-friendly.
More detail on the Robot Rally program page.
Charity Bike Build
The Charity Bike Build is a team competition where groups earn bicycle components by completing challenges, assemble the bikes, and donate them to local children through a charity partner. The reveal at the end, when the kids arrive, is the part people still describe a year later. Choose this when the event has to serve a CSR objective as well as a team one.
The complete catalog is on our in-person programs page. For booking timelines, case studies, and the broader regional picture, see the 2026 Southern California team building guide.
Corporate Games vs. Other Team Building Formats
Corporate games differ from other team building formats in three measurable ways: participation rate, duration, and whether the event produces a result. Here is how the common options compare.
Format Type | Participation | Typical Length | Best When |
Corporate games | All participants, full session | 45 min–4 hours | You need measurable engagement across a whole group |
Icebreakers | All, but brief | 10–20 min | Opening a meeting; not a standalone event |
Team dinner | Varies; cliques form | 2–3 hours | Celebrating a result, not building a team |
Escape room | 6–10 per room | 60–90 min | Small teams; does not scale past about 40 |
Volunteer day | All participants | Half to full day | CSR is the primary goal, teamwork secondary |
Ropes course | All, physical | Half to full day | High trust needed; excludes some participants |
Corporate Games vs. Office Olympics
Office Olympics is one type of corporate game, not a separate category. The term refers specifically to a rotating circuit of short athletic and mental challenges, which is what our Global Games format delivers. Corporate games is the broader category, also covering game shows, builds, hunts, and mysteries.
Where We Run Corporate Games in Southern California
TeamBuilding ROI is a mobile provider: we do not own a venue and bring the full event to wherever you are already booked. Most of our events run at the client’s own office, which removes venue cost and travel time entirely. When a group wants to get offsite, we run wherever you book.
Los Angeles County
Downtown lofts and creative spaces in the Arts District, hotel ballrooms across the business district, and outdoor settings including Griffith Park and the Santa Monica Pier. Venue detail on the Los Angeles team building page.
Orange County
Coastal resorts and conference hotels from Newport Beach through Laguna Niguel, plus beach formats at Huntington Beach. Venue detail on the Orange County team building page.
San Diego County
Waterfront ballrooms on the bay, Balboa Park lawns, and the Gaslamp Quarter for hunt formats. Venue detail on the San Diego team building page.
For beach and lawn formats like the Sandcastle Crusade, coastal city permits typically take four to eight weeks. Build that into your timeline.
What Corporate Games Cost in Southern California
Corporate games in Southern California cost between $50 and $300 per person, with most corporate groups landing in the $85 to $150 range for a half-day facilitated program. The variables are format, duration, group size, and whether production elements or culinary components are involved.
Tier | Per Person | What It Covers |
Entry | $50–$100 | Shorter formats, basic facilitation, materials |
Mid-range | $85–$150 | Half-day program, professional facilitation, structured debrief |
Premium | $150–$300+ | Full-day, production-heavy or culinary formats; venue rental separate |
Our structure is a base fee covering groups up to 15 guests, a per-person rate from 16 to 100 guests, and a separate rate above 100. A group of 80 at the mid-range tier lands between roughly $6,800 and $12,000 all in, comparable to a single team dinner but with a measurable outcome attached. We return a custom quote within 24 hours.
How to Choose the Right Format
The right corporate game format is determined by the team problem you are solving, not by which activity sounds most appealing. Start with the problem:
- Team is siloed after a reorg. Global Games or Murder Mystery. Both force cross-department mixing by design.
- Morale is low and you need a win. Game Show Roundup. Highest energy per minute, no physical barrier to entry.
- You have 45 minutes inside a longer agenda. 60 Seconds to Success. Sets up and breaks down fast.
- Engineering team that will roll their eyes at anything soft. Robot Rally or Greatest Glider. Give them a real build problem.
- The event needs to serve a CSR objective too. Charity Bike Build.
- Group is over 500. Global Games or Game Show Roundup. Both scale through modular setups.
One consistent finding across the events we run: the debrief is where measurable outcomes come from, not the activity. Teams that treat the debrief as optional report weaker engagement scores afterward. Set a cultural KPI before the event date and survey against it 30 days later.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are corporate games?
Corporate games are hosted team competitions with a scoring system, run by a professional facilitator, structured so every participant stays active for the full session. They differ from icebreakers in having a defined winner and a structured debrief.
How much do corporate games cost in Southern California?
Between $50 and $300 per person. Most corporate groups land between $85 and $150 for a half-day facilitated program. A group of 80 at that tier costs roughly $6,800 to $12,000 total. Venue rental, if any, is separate.
How many people do you need for corporate games?
Ten at the low end. Global Games and Game Show Roundup scale past 2,000 using simultaneous stations and modular setups. Most Southern California groups we run fall between 40 and 300 participants.
Can you run corporate games at our office?
Yes, and it is the majority of what we do. We bring equipment, hosts, scoring, setup, and breakdown. A conference room, cafeteria, courtyard, or parking lot all work. Tell us the space you have and we will tell you which formats fit it.
How far in advance should we book a corporate game day?
Six to eight weeks is comfortable for groups of 20 to 100. For groups over 100, or dates near major regional events, target three to five months. Beach and coastal permits add four to eight weeks on top of that.
Are corporate games indoor or outdoor?
Most run either way. Game Show Roundup, Robot Rally, and 60 Seconds to Success are indoor-friendly. Global Games, Treasure Hunt, and Sandcastle Crusade are stronger outdoors. When we plan an outdoor event we confirm an indoor backup with your venue at booking, so a marine layer morning does not cost you the event.
What is the difference between corporate games and Office Olympics?
Office Olympics is one type of corporate game. It refers to a rotating circuit of short athletic and mental challenges, which our Global Games format delivers. Corporate games is the broader category, also covering game shows, builds, hunts, and mysteries.
