In 2019 when the team building world had to pivot, TeamBuilding ROI created some great virtual activities for employees now working from home or teams that are spread across different time zones.
We created Virtual Mysteries, Online Game Shows and Virtual Reverse Escape Rooms where you break into files instead of breaking out!
All of these virtual meeting activities require a host, but we ran into a few Easy Virtual Team Building Activities You Can Do On Your Own without a host and we would like to share them with you so you can make your next virtual meeting fun and memorable. Prefer a fully hosted virtual experience? Our virtual meeting series hosted game show takes all the planning off your plate so your team can just show up and have fun.
Virtual Meeting Games That Do Not Need A Host
Win Lose Or Draw
Win Lose Or Draw is a fun drawing and guessing game that is one of the Easy Virtual Team Building Activities You Can Do On Your Own without a host at any virtual meeting or for any online meeting activity.
What You Will Need:
Each guest will need a pen and paper to write on
Each guest will need their cameras on so they can hold up and share what they have drawn with the rest of the guests
Each guest needs the ability to private chat with all of the other guests
Two Teams of at least 2 guests each
Starting The Game:
A player from Team #1 will private chat a simple word to a player on Team #2.
Example: Bell
The player that receives the private chat of “Bell” will start to draw the “Bell” and hold up their drawing as many times as they want within a 30 second time limit.
The other players on Team #2 (the team that is drawing) will shout out whatever they think the drawing is. There are no penalties for wrong answers.
If someone on the Drawing Team shouts out the right answer (in this case “Bell”) that team gets a point.
Then someone from the team that just drew (team #2) will private chat a word to a guest from Team #1 so they can draw fro their team.
Rules Of The Game:
Players from the same team cannot send the word to be drawn to their own teammates, the words must be private chatted from the opposing team.
You cannot write words as part of your picture.
You can circle items, use arrows to emphasize any part of your picture and you can add to your picture or start over anytime you like.
Easy and Hard Words to Draw:
It is possible that some discussions will ensue about the difficulty of the word chosen by one team for another team.
Easy Word Examples Would Be:
Bucket, Cat, Butterfly, Book, Light Bulb Etc.
Harder Word Examples Would Be:
Crayon, Egg, Radio, Dolphin Etc.
Advanced Word Examples Would Be:
Toast, Night, Feast, Parade Etc.
The Results:
This is a fun two team game that will spark conversation and is easy to inject into any virtual meeting or online activity.
The Match Game
The Match Game is another fun game that is very easy to play without a host at any virtual meeting or for any online meeting activity.
A player from Team #1 will verbally ask a question to a player from Team #2 that the player from Team #2 will answer. It is up to the rest of the teammates on Team #2 to write down what they think the teammate answering the question will say.
Example:
“My favorite flavor of ice cream is __________ (Blank)?”
The Rules:
The teammate answering the question will not just shout out their answer right away.
They will wait for their teammates to write down what they hope their teammate answering the question will say. They then put down their paper and hold up their hands so you know the players trying to match have their answers locked in.
When everyone from the team that is playing holds up their hands, then the teammate that is answering the question can verbally give their answer.
“My favorite flavor of ice cream is strawberry.”
Then all their teammates who matched “Strawberry” will hold up their paper to show that they wrote down “strawberry”.
You get a point for each match.
The Results:
The great thing about the match game is if you know your team really well maybe some of the questions the other team comes up with for your team to answer will be easy. But if not, you will learn a lot about your teammates when you hear their answers.
It is always fun to hear the wrong answers that some of the teammates wrote down as well, making this an eye opening virtual meeting activity or online game.
Virtual Charades
Virtual Charades is a game much like Win Lose Or Draw, but you will act out the word or phrase instead of drawing the word/phrase. This makes for a laugh filled virtual meeting activity or online meeting game.
What You Will Need:
Just the ability to private chat all guests
You will need your cameras on
Getting Started:
A player from team #1 will private chat a player from team #2 a phrase, word, movie title etc.
The player who receives the word will try to act out (with their hands or body) the word for their teammates to guess the correct word or phrase.
It is that simple!
The Rules:
In turn, each player sends a private chat to a player from the other team. The player who receives the private chat acts out the phrase shown using hand signals and body motions but no spoken words. Players then try to guess the title/phrase. The player giving the correct answer is allocated a point.
The Results:
While this is the simplest game to play out of the game listed so far, it is the one that will cause the most laughter and memorable moments. Virtual Charades is a great ice breaker for any virtual meeting activity or online meeting game!
Blind Man’s Bluff Poker
Blind Man’s Bluff is a fun card game that works great online for a virtual meeting activity or online meeting game.
What You Will Need:
Each player will need a deck of cards
Each player will need their cameras on
Each player will have trust their competitors not to cheat
Each player will need to agree not to cheat (more on that later)
Getting Started:
Each player with their camera on shuffles their deck of cards and sets it in front of them.
When all of the players are ready, each player one at a time picks up the top card on their deck and without looking at it will close their eyes (remember we all agreed not to cheat!) and hold it up in front of your laptop camera so the card is shown to all the other guests playing. The then put their card down face down and open up their eyes.
So you will get to see everyone’s card but yours!
Are You In Or Out?
Once you have seen everyone’s cards but your own. You need to decide if you want to “play” or not.
If you decide to play you are saying that you think the card you showed (that you did not and cannot see) is higher than all the other players cards that you did see.
If you decide you are “In” you are going to play and hope you win the point.
So you need to remember the cards you have seen since they are all only shown once!
The Rules:
Once you decide you are “In” or “Out” you are able to gain or lose points.
If you decide you are “In” and it turns out you do not win (another player’s card is higher than yours) you will lose a point.
But if you were right, you get 3 points!
You do not ever have to be “In” if you do not want to. If you look around and there are Jacks and Queens you may decide not to play. But, you can always bluff and say you are “In” and hope you get the high cards to be “Out”.
The Results:
Blind Man’s Bluff is a really fun and psychological game as you can try to convince people to be “out” so you do end up with the highest card. But remember the other players can see your card, so chose your bluffing spots wisely!
This is also a great memory game if you are playing with a lot of guests as you need to remember the cards that were shown one at a time and that you only got to see once for a few seconds.
This game will tell you a lot about peoples personalities and is a great virtual meeting activity or online meeting game!
